Welcome to Weekly Wonderings, a newsletter sharing thoughts and ideas during my journey towards Digital Self-Actualization, > Realizing our meaningful potential through the synthesis of digital tools, life management systems, and humanistic philosophies Here's a quick galactic overview of this edition 🌌: - [[#Quick Updates πŸƒ]] - [[#My first second brain tour presentation 😳]] - [[#On complex second brain systems βš™οΈ]] - [[#Enhancing lists in Obsidian πŸ“]] ## In My Life ### Quick Updates πŸƒ - I've been spending my June with my best friend Aidan as he visits Vancouver, so I've been appreciating the first two weeks of the month to do things we couldn't in our online interactions. It's been a LOT of food for thought on my relationship with productivity and socializing, so expect a more heartfelt reflection in that next newsletter πŸ˜… - My participation in the [[Writing Original Works LYT Workshop]] has ended. I am prioritizing spending time with Aidan, so I have a few lingering student showcases and lessons to go over, but once I have more time on my hands, I'll transform the clarity from the workshop into sharing some of the ideas on the backlog :) - After a few months, my base 3D Vtuber model is ready for action 😎 The plan is to bring it on a test run on my second channel by making more casual videos to test the waters and play around with the software. Thanks so much to my 3d model artist [Kakaiya](https://twitter.com/kakaiya8) for staying faithful to the original model created by [IronBeastz](https://twitter.com/BeastzIron) while keeping her vibrant style that intrigued me in the first place! I had a little showcase on my Discord on its face and hand-tracking capabilities, but once I'm no longer in vacation mode, expect it to be a cornerstone in my video content🫑 - I am joining [buildspace s5](https://buildspace.so/) to share the things I'll be working on and connect with like-minded people. The only problem is that I don't know which of my ongoing projects I should showcase decent progress on in 6 weeks πŸ€” ### My first second brain tour presentation 😳 Two months ago, I created a poll saying I would work on a comprehensive vault tour, but as you can might notice, it has not been made yet πŸ˜… I mean, I did set up the foundation for clarity by collecting my notes and writing my ideas down in [[USV Documentation]]… but other priorities and uncertainty are preventing me from doing a multi-hour tour like [Bryan Jenks](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ewhfok91AdE) has. Thankfully, I've come across a [[Forcing Function]] to give me a deadline and bring out a first draft of it 😁 I'm showcasing my vault for members of LYT's Knowledge Accelerator program! After receiving feedback, I hope to tweak it for a more detailed and polished video showcase. On top of giving me external accountability, it will also be a glimpse into what educational experiences would look like similar to my future aspirations as a streamer :) To build off what I currently have, I'm hoping to continue elaborating on the [[Digital Galaxy]] metaphor to life by better connecting the parts of [[Ultimate Starter Vault]] with it. ## On complex second brain systems βš™οΈ [[My Outputs/My Writings/On complex second brain systems|On complex second brain systems]] ## Enhancing lists in Obsidian πŸ“ My natural [[Top-Down Thinking]] nature craves hierarchical structure in my notes and ideas πŸ˜… Thankfully, this is enabled through my EXTENSIVE use of bullet points in Obsidian 🀩 With them, I can: - Have parent, sibling, and child relationships based on how they're nested - With plugins like Outliner, you can also quickly modify them easily! This current functionality is enough for my needs, but recently, I've come across the [[List Callouts Plugin]], a plugin that lets you stylize the bullet points. You can already technically highlight certain points with the use of **bolding**, *italicizing*, or ==highlighting== in markdown, but the default callouts they provide can already further enhance the experience and give you a new characteristic to play with; instead of using the same-color text prefixes for different symbols like ! ? &, each can be assigned a color, which I find much more attention-grabbing. For example, in my book highlights like [[My Inputs/My Books/The Pathless Path|The Pathless Path]], any annotations I add are imported with the πŸ’ emoji as a prefix. With the plugin, instead of something like this: ![](https://i.imgur.com/oM6DkSU.png) It feels more like a traditional [[Obsidian Callouts|callout]] by looking like this: ![](https://i.imgur.com/KhtuQrp.png) To be fair, that doesn't seem like that much of an improvement since emoji prefixes are already quite noticeable, so another use case I'd like to share is for cleaning up some callouts. If you decide to use inline metadata fields for tracking information like [[Daily Logs]] (I like to track any obstacles I had throughout the day in my daily note journalling), you will have parts of your note that look something like this: ``` obstacle:: (insert obstacle here) ``` But if we were to turn them into lists and set up a custom list callout for `- obstacle::`, ![](https://i.imgur.com/dBmB6Cc.png) and then turn the line into a list, ``` - obstacle:: (insert obstacle here) ``` we make it a bit more stylish! I only recommend this for fields where you will have multiple throughout the note. Otherwise, I would recommend creating an [[Obsidian Meta Bind Plugin]] input field. ## My new shining stars 🌟 _A place to share the new stars and constellations inside my digital galaxy_ ### Inputs - With the rise of [[GPT 4o]] 's surreal voice dynamics, I finally watched [[Her]] to see their exploration of its effects on humanity. I did not have any super in-depth notes, but I wrote down a lot of bullet points and questions to explore when I do write about it. - I watched a fellow educational Vtuber's presentation on [[Mental Health First Aid]], which I feel is - Jelger Kroese, a fellow student in the [[Writing Original Works LYT Workshop]], had a nice perspective on [[Reclaiming our sense of value and meaning by attending differently]]. ## My Free Courses 🧠 [Organize your life and knowledge by building your second brain](https://free.johnmavrick.com/code-method) πŸ“ƒ [Get my FREE 4-part Obsidian beginner course with 20+ templates](https://free.johnmavrick.com/obsidian-templates) πŸ‘©β€πŸ« [3 Days to Lecture Note Taking Mastery](https://course.aidanhelfant.com/3daystolecturenotetakingmastery?ref=JohnMavrickYT): πŸ€– [Get my FREE Ultimate Guide to using AI for PKM with 15+ prompts](https://free.johnmavrick.com/ai-pkm)https://free.johnmavrick.com/ai-pkm Feel free to share your thoughts in the community Discord :)
