One of the best ways of alleviating [[ADHD]] because it biologically accommodates for how [[ADHD brains lack neurotransmitters]] - [[My ADHD Medication]] A lot of people share how medication has been the best thing that has happened to them. - [For example](https://www.reddit.com/r/ADHD/comments/11dlvek/how_was_your_life_before_and_after_being/) Ideally I would not become reliant, but if you have a neurological deficit I think the main way to overcome it would be to artificially replenish it. ## Types - I am currently taking [[Concerta]] - Vyvanse get a bit more time than concerta - vyvanse is a dopamine booster and a reuptake inhibitor while concerta is only a reuptake inhibitor - Ritalin - [Take after eating](https://www.reddit.com/r/ADHD/comments/1biv2kr/comment/kvn30zl/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) - you should do your best to avoid them for a while before and after taking your medications ### Non-stimulants I love Strattera so much! I have remembered my meds every day for like three weeks now, which is a major indication that it's working. It's been MONTHS of this and then that and different doses and the blah blah blah. It made such a HUGE difference when i added it to an antidepressant and mood stabilizer combo that wasn't doing the trick.[^1] ## Taking - Apparently citric acid may inhibit the uptake of medication bruh - Guess no more pop alsdkjalkdjasd - Water intake also affects, drink water systematically - Eating beforehand will mean your body will be digesting food and not prioritising your meds. You don't want that. - Eating at the same time will lead to similar results. ## Benefits > The biggest difference I noticed, beyond a sort of mental static-clearing, was that how I felt about a given unpleasant task no longer swamped my entire experience of trying to do it. The executive function challenges are still there, but I feel like I can make more decisions about following through on things, or keep up with maintaining some scaffoldings in place, because the mental/emotional pain management aspect of getting through literally anything I'm not hyperfocused on is turned down several clicks. > [Source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ADHD/comments/yz9k9y/comment/iwyv43w/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) But this advocates for the opposite: ![[The Mystery of ADHD Motivation, Solved#^selxy6]] I guess the threshold can still be highly variable depending on the individual. ### Mine - See [[Concerta#Side Effects]] - I'm not helplessly anxious because I feel more autonomy, clarity, and confidence in my actions (also caused by other things of course like my systems) - Financial and career uncertainty makes me plan - Was able to quit my job as I feel I can tolerate the worst case - [[Growth Mindset]] ### Calmer I had a slow paced, relaxed productive day, then managed to settle down and enjoy a nice dinner with the kids. I still feel like my mind is a bit of a tempest at times, and sometimes the kids can be overwhelming, but looking at the outcomes makes me think I’m in a good spot. ## Microdosing > I took some microdoses of psilocybe cubensis and, in certain doses (200-400 mg), it seems to help with mindfulness, while larger doses (+600 mg) start to have cosmic and mystical effects. I only used it a few times for anxiety and depression, but after my team diagnosed me with ADHD, I started taking sertraline, bupropion and methylphenidate. I say that psilocybe cubensis has an effect similar to that of methylphenidate, but much more intense, euphoric and much more visually colorful. > I want to mention that yes I do still consumes psychedelics even though I'm medicated, but I do not take medication for 48 hours before consuming psychedelics. It's a very rare thing but it's something I'm able to plan well ahead of time. I do not like the idea of mixing any additional chemicals with those chemicals lol > [Source](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9pQaAZ1lgI) # References [^1]: https://www.reddit.com/r/adhdwomen/comments/11fbm5i/non_stimulant_adhd_meds/
