The traditional approach to understanding how the mind works
![[The Extended Mind#^b78byz]]
## Assumptions
- in psychology, we assume that the world exists (realism)
- blank slate, we learn through senses
- our senses tell us the realities of the world
- Cause and effect is achieved through direct contact
- For non-direct contact, there is a medium
- ex) we receive a copy on the world to cause this effect (the image)
- Copy image is bad and needs to be fixed, but it still gives us data to form things
- Cue + rule + unconscious inference = understanding
- Fix the copy and that is how we understand the world
## Criticisms
- [[Ecological psychology promotes a growth mindset]]
- Problem is that it doesn't account for benefits of [[Embodied cognition]]
