Something that is an effect but is not a cause. An example is consciousness ā it emerges from our brain's structure and activity, but it doesn't directly cause anything. By cause, more specifically it doesn't end up affecting our physical tissue and neurotransmitters. [^1]
These sound like emergence, as mentioned in [[Cognition and reality share the same grammar]]? But it's a one-way affect, unlike something more reciprocal.
