In relation to self-dialogue, it's:

The goal of IFS is to separate yourself from your parts so you can best be aware and collaborate with them collectively through [[Dialectic]]
But that isn't always possible:
## Principles
- To best communicate with them, we need to stay in Self by staying unblended. See [[IFS Blending]]
### Accessing
- Existing parts you know
- Current moment
- We can discover new and familiar parts through [[IFS Trailhead|Trailheads]], which are like the footprints of our self
- When re-accessing, we can leverage thigns mentioned there
### Differentiation
This is done through comparison and experimentation. Opposites imply different parts, dependencies imply different parts, similarities are only discovered through exploration.
To best know, we can tap into our body for a felt sense. If it is still unclear, we just need to persevere.
## Types
### [[Protectors]]
- ![[After Socrates Episode 8 - The Socratic Shift Dr. John Vervaeke#^x5t9vq]]
- The parts we usually are aware of
### [[Exiles]]
### Concerned Parts
Concerned parts are parts that may prevent us from engaging with [[Exiles]], and may try to blend with you to do so.
The best way to dissolve a concerned part is to understand their motives by asking why it doesn't trust you. Since they're proactive and do have your best interests in mind, they will probably let you know. It could be something like:
- Not truly embodying the Self due to [[IFS Blending]], which makes them feel judged or threatened
- This is where we can self-reflect and see whether we are or not
- It could also just be general lack of trust, not just you (probably my reason for romantic-related parts ðŸ˜)
- It's a deep wound to heal that is sensitive, so just take it slow by just being there and listening whenever something comes up so they can feel heard
- Remind them that if you're coming from Self, and it's the present moment, then we can shape our past in a way we couldn't before
- Since we're in self, we need to accept that some of our more sensitive parts can take longer to open up. We can't optimize or rush the healing process, and to maintain integrity.
