## Tips
### When to process
I think it's best to check your inputs every day, and to have at least one session a week where you allocate time to process notes.
But even though you've spent all this time highlighting, sometimes it's okay to not fully process a note. If I feel like I don't need to turn it into conceptual notes because it's fine the way it currently is, then I just set the status to archived. I just make sure I can process it in the future when I do need it by making it accessible when [[Retrieving information from your notes]]
### Keeping quotes in their respective input
- [[Keeping track of references using Obsidian]]
- Allows you to still have a progressive summarization of notes, and keeps the author's thoughts their own
- But if you only ended up with one note from a source without many highlights it might not be as necessary to have a dedicated source note, so you can just delete the input note and just have the source URL
## Process
### Backlog
Have a good [[Information Diet]]
You can learn how to create a new input via [[Creating and modifying notes]] (in vault)
### Note-Taking
[[Inputs#Note-Taking]]
Follow [[My highlighting workflow]]
### Processing
Depends on what your intention is for the input, can visit [[USV and Personal Knowledge Management#Why]] to learn more.
When creating a new idea based on a quote I like to use [[Copy Block Link Plugin]]:
- I copy a linked embed, then paste it in the new note
- In the input note, I can use [[Obsidian Strange New Worlds Plugin]] to see where highlights are embedded
- I then move the annotations to the new note
- This helps create a link while keeping only one source of truth for the quote
I don't do [[Progressive Summarization]] because he summarizes to keep track of what is relevant and more important within the highlights. Instead, I just do that by creating notes for the important ideas and showing them in the "Notes" header.
If you end up with only one note, you can consider just deleting the input note and then adding the source URL in the note you made. This can help declutter your input notes stored.
### Finished
When all the important ideas should be extracted from the input note into new and related notes.
Set `Finished` date and mark status.
