## Notes A main goal of this series is to internalize Socrates. This is achieved through [[Tracking]] Socrates' life, following in his path. By the end you will have a love for [[Wisdom]], which is the essence of [[Philosophy]]. [[John Vervaeke]] is doing this for himself so he can know what it's like within and so he can inspire us through his attempts to be Socrates. After a discussion with Aidan, he brought up an interesting perspective of how AS imbues you with [[Sopherson]] to ensure your actions are meaningful, which is how you can make sure you live a full life. by working on your character and [[Being mode]], you effortlessly do the right thing. ### So what? The goal is to pursue [[Ontonormativity]] by following the [[Logos]] to connect with the [[Ultimate]]. We can only [[Participatory knowing|participate]] in the ultimate, due to it's [[No-thingness]] nature. We can achieve this through the principles of [[Socratic dialogue]] — adopting [[Learned ignorance]] and being re-oriented through [[Aporia]] lets us engage in [[Anagoge]] since [[Irony helps us realize what is ultimate]]. ### Structure Each episode will have Socratic points to scaffold us into following the path Build argument and tutorial per episode. Instead of a worldview like his other series [[Awakening from the meaning crisis]], we develop an intensive path. ### Practices #### Example John Vervaeke's routine: ![[After Socrates Episode 8 - The Socratic Shift Dr. John Vervaeke#^o0ovse]] #### Initial First, you prepare for meditation by doing the [[Rooting Meditation Practice]]. Once you do that, you can engage in traditional [[Vipassana Meditation]] through [[Vervaeke Centered Meditation]] To deeply internalize the idea of [[Learned ignorance]], you can refer to [[Humble Humility Wonder Meditation Practice]] #### Embodied Wonder Meditation Practice do after humble wonder lifting up is reality-centric looking down is ego-centric ![[After Socrates Episode 3 - Dialectic Into Dia-Logos Dr. John Vervaeke#^d18iaf]] #### The participatory trifecta - ![[After Socrates Episode 4 - Reverse Engineering the Dialectic Dr. John Vervaeke#^ea3vgq]] ##### Awareness of Awareness Practice - ![[After Socrates Episode 3 - Dialectic Into Dia-Logos Dr. John Vervaeke#^sv6jwv]] - I just take the time to go through all my senses one at a time, then try to climb a bit higher to the connected sense of awareness that is aware of all of them. Not much room for subjective thoughts. Reminds me of the mindful state of being when on [[Psychedelics]] ##### Theoria meditation - ![[After Socrates Episode 4 - Reverse Engineering the Dialectic Dr. John Vervaeke#^ps6gli]] - This builds off of the previous practice, being able to come into contact with that state of being without having to do the sensual priming ritual - I still am a bit unsure on what to look for when seeing in to the depths of reality, but I try to follow the principles of [[Participatory knowing]] and [[Dialogos]] - After doing some note-making, it sounds like this is the process for being aware of these two states, and being able to transition between them. It isn't until the [[#Indwelling internalization meditation]] where we realize the connected nature of the two ##### Indwelling internalization meditation ![[After Socrates Episode 4 - Reverse Engineering the Dialectic Dr. John Vervaeke#^fdxbuu]] - The practice of [[Anagoge]] ##### Culmination ![[After Socrates Episode 4 - Reverse Engineering the Dialectic Dr. John Vervaeke#^6q2bmg]] It sounds like this is the taste of the communion from the vertical dimension of [[Socratic dialogue]]? #### Finite Transcendence - With the world, [[Finite transcendence walking meditation]] - Internalization of texts, [[Lectio Divina]] #### Meditative questioning [[Meditative Questioning Practice]] #### Vertical Dimension practices - [[Reciprocal opening practice]] - [[Vertical zooming out practice]] ## All Inputs ```dataview table Status, Created, file.outlinks from [[]] and #input where contains(Collection, [[]]) Sort Created desc ``` ## To Read
