## Notes/Brainstorming
### **✨** In My Life
- Quick capture video\*\*
- Created an unmaintained discord
- Just wanted to create it to chat if you wanted, but there's no big plans anytime soon
- Kind of like a way to keep my door open for any conversation
- Found myself consuming a lot of entertainment content
### **🔗** Links to Thinks
- Most of my links consumed have been related to startup, so I actually don't have much lmao

- I'm currently exploring my relationship with leisure.
- How much time should I spend each day on it?
- What counts as leisure?
- This personal story claims that a serious hobby, one of progression, is key to a fulfilling life.
- But unfortunately, as work life balance begins to disintegrate, and as we become poorer, we synonymize hobbies with a side hustle.
- Furthermore, a new hobby can be the constant act we perform on our social media personas, whether we're superficially displaying our life's highlights or focusing on a niche.
- [What counts as productive](https://www.reddit.com/r/productivity/comments/xhchdq/what_counts_as_productive/)
- On the other hand, I found this cool reddit post on how people quantify productivity.
- Fahrehnheit 451
- Turns out I've been invested in the idea of ignorance vs intellectual pursuit ever since my highschool days.
- During my Grade 10th advanced English class, we first read the book Fahrenheit 451, a dystopian novel where books are deemed illegal in society.
- Now that I look back, it poses some concerning subliminal messages that are still prevalent in society, mainly in regards to ignorance through distraction and the power of knowledge.
- If you want, I have an essay on the character's gradual englightenment throughout the novel.
- Navwel, cool website
- I'm an advocate for meaningful and actionable content consumption, and this website helps faciliate that experience.
- Instead of mindlessly scrolling between different ideas, users can group together content into roadmaps and border-line courses.
- Questioning my career
- Found this post on tips for a [fulfilling career](https://www.theatlantic.com/newsletters/archive/2022/09/career-ambition-advice-data/671374/?utm_source=tldrnewsletter) to be helpful, as well as this post

## Publishing Copy
Welcome to another edition of _Weekly Wondering_, a sacred time where I share the resonating links, reflections and learnings from my past week to influence your next one ;)
I was initially not wanting to post this week because I didn't feel like I had enough substance, but I do want to reflect a bit on my week sooo
### **✨** In My Life
**Join my community!**
I created a discord server for people who want to chat, whether it be for Obsidian help, productivity, or just life related. If you want to join, [click here](https://discord.com/invite/aQgbyj522e).
There's no big plans as of now, just wanted to keep a door open for any conversation.
**Overcoming information overload**
To share how I deal with information overload, I shared my workflow on my quick capture process using Fleeting Notes and Obsidian.
I also took part in a new podcast hosted by [Matthew Wong](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9N5uy5hMSWPm8EUDq5rokA/videos) on _overcoming information overload_, which should be out soon? It is beginner-oriented, so if you've watched some of my workflow videos then there might not be anything new.

**What are hobbies?**
I'm currently exploring my relationship with leisure.
How much time should I spend each day on it?
What counts as leisure?
This [personal reflection](https://thewalrus.ca/why-dont-millennials-have-hobbies/?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email) claims that a serious hobby, one of progression, is key to a fulfilling life.
But unfortunately, as work life balance begins to disintegrate, and as we become poorer, we synonymize hobbies with a side hustle.
Furthermore, a new hobby can be the constant act we perform on our social media personas, whether we're superficially displaying our life's highlights or focusing on a niche.

**Optimizing my time through [[polyphasic sleep]]**
I found myself gravitating towards sleeping late at night, at around 1 to 2:30 AM, to allocate time for my responsibilities.
Unfortunately, that's only 6-7 hours of sleep, so I decided to try something I've always wanted to: polyphasic sleep.
Although it does harm your overall REM since you have 50% of it during the 8th hour, if you adopt a [different sleeping pattern](https://www.reddit.com/r/polyphasic/comments/4ocaec/for_a_student_which_sleep_pattern_is_the_best/) then you could have more time in your days.
And so, for the past week or two, I started with a base sleep of 6 hours with a nap of 1-2 hours (start ranging from 6-7 PM).
I felt quite refreshed after my naps and was able to get work done until bedtime, but hoLYY did my energy at work suffer.
It was the first time I've felt perpetually tired, and I've even had some months of 4 hours of sleep during highschool.
Maybe I was just waking up at the wrong time, and results may vary, so try at your own risk :p
**My ultimate form of motivation**
External accountability shouldn't always be used as a resort for a lack of intrinsic motivation, but boy is it effective.
I've had the idea of creating an email funnel for the past few weeks to help with conversion from people who downloaded my free templates, but was too uncertain about its effectiveness.
But you never know until you try :p
And so, I bet a w h o p p i n g $20 that I would finish it completely with [Jack](https://twitter.com/mielke_jack), and to hold himself accountable, he did the same but for a YouTube video.
It's just surreal how much an extra nudge can help, as I've already started working on it before this upcoming week has even started 😅
### **🤔** Food For Thought
I received an interesting comment recently on my Building a Second Brain in Obsidian video:
After reading, my inner therapist kicked in, extremely curious about their intentions and mental state for deciding to comment this.
I genuinely didn't know how to respond.
But after some thought and discussion with others, I tried to be empathetically curious and responded with:
_It pains me to read this; I personally haven't recently experienced all these emotions to the same degree as you are right now, but can get a sense of what you're feeling. I apologize that my content was the trigger for this rapid stream of self-deprecation. I hope this was just a mere blip, and that you're feeling better off after some time. Although my "success" may seem impressive to certain people, I would be lying if I said I wasn't in the same boat as you at times with other people's accomplishments. The only best thing is to just only compare yourself to yourself and to just solely focus on setting out the goals you have yourself, as non-influenced by other people's status and environmental values as possible. Don't work because other people are, do it because you intrinsically value the things you want to do, and the life you want to achieve. I'm extremely curious as to what gave you the courage to share this publicly, rather than in some personal journal. Was it meant to be sent somewhere else? Was it an attempt for empathy from people feeling the same way? Or just a form of masochistic self-motivation? Are you lacking social or environmental support systems in your life to help you during these times? If so, I can try to lend an ear._
It's heart breaking to think that people might have to face these feelings of self-doubt and pessimism on their own, so be sure to stay aware of the feelings of the people around you and help accordingly.
### 😤 My Ramblings
If you're curious as to what kind of fleeting notes I take, here's a note I took using voice-to-text in Fleeting Notes (revised for gammar):
Following the complete 180 in my lifestyle from no-life gamer to no-life autodidact, its crazy to realize how how many different things are in this world.
There's just so many things to consume, things to do, things to try, celebrities to follow, how are you supposed to decide on which ones should be the things you prioritize and value?
As of right now it's clear that your environment, mostly social media is what dictates these, but what caused me to go into my own path, to stray away from my decade-long interest in gaming and hedonism?
And who are we to judge which lifestyle is correct? Is there really one that is objectively better than the others? Is it mostly based on your genetics and route your life?
It is also important to consider the fact that to be able to just have these times where you do nothing and just do things for the sake of enjoyment is important for a balance and for practicing just in overall moderation, but can one hobby be comparatively better than the other? Would something that genuinely has no improvement for your life be better than something that does have some form of progression, since it genuinely is an act of leisure (Editors note: I guess the above link on hobbies downplays this though).
Why do I feel tired of consuming content? Right now I feel more like creating and producing. Is it because of information overload, or do I somehow feel prepared to take action with the knowledge I already have?
Which makes me question, is entertainment better than productivity porn? At least when you're consuming something for entertainment purposes it is the appropriate use case for that medium and your intentions. But if you're just watching the same shallow stuff over and over again then you're not using your time in the way you wanted to.
