WTF is happening to the state of content online? I go on Medium and read an article and it's full of common sense. I go on Quora and read an answer but once again it’s filled with the same common sense. I swear every other tweet I see in my feed is something along the lines of “Write online to live a life you want to. Stay consistent, and you can also work 4 hours a week making 6 figures online.” I guess that’s my fault for going on those websites expecting meaningful ideas, but really? I'm just amazed by how these multi-thousand follower accounts believe that such information and insights are what the world needs and is what will make them stand out from other creators. What kind of state of the world are we in right now where such common advice like “get 8 hours of sleep” and “eat protein” is being thought to be useful for people to read (this advice was from an introductory email for a newsletter from a “high performance” coach…) Where are thought leaders like Tiago Forte who come up with new systems and ways of thinking, not just people who decide to paraphrase everything they consume into their own watered-down versions with no personal additions or real substance? Am I just on the wrong side of the internet, or is this really what online content creation has come to? I can't tell if this is because of the consumer or the creator. Has the quality of life and mental wellness deteriorated from the current state of the world where we need such simple reminders to survive? Or is the non-existent barrier to content creation resulting in people who don’t know how to think for themselves flooding my feeds? Please, if you have any valuable insights from your field that are unique, please share and override these carbon copy creators. As much as I want to grow my own brand through shallow content like the above due to its benefits in the algorithm, it just feels like wasted time and effort. Takeaway: please stop consuming the same information and clean up your sources.
