When going through the shared drafts for week 1 in [[Writing Original Works LYT Workshop]], I came across an essay about people pleasing and Malaika Node brought up an interesting point:
> this is the perfect conclusion to this essay, because this is exactly the question a people pleaser would ask? And perhaps the ideal next step towards "unlearning" is to leave it exactly as ranty as it may seem? Only adapt to your readers when they adapt to your gluten intolerance.
today i learned my people pleasing tendencies didn’t go away, they have just been simply replaced with persuasive writing instead of preserving the rants that come from my initial brain dumps 😭 thank you for bringing this idea to light
i think there is some implicit value found in just sharing your story without trying to generalize it for relatability. one of my favorite writer friends i know include these niche details and personal anecdotes, which i find refreshing amidst writing that would be seen as “valuable”. with the personal rant, you share your own personal next steps and preferred mindset to grow into, and i feel that can be helpful as food for thought for people to come up with their own unique way of doing something similar beyond generic advice out there.
