I personally struggle with this a lot, trying to balance between [[Content Virality]]
following existing patterns or adding my own unoptimized thoughts to it.
One of modules from [[Writing Original Works LYT Workshop]] highlighted that writings don't feel original when you're
- plaigarising
- copying ChatGPT
- Writing for the wrong reasons
This is because the easiest way to make something original is to add your perspective to it:
- [[Authenticity in branding]]
- Writing from personal experience
- Your own actions
Nick boils this down to three influences:
- Voice, the things only we can say
- [[Moments]] and experiences
- Unique [[Worldview]]
- Clarity
- Like [[Shiny Dime]], keeping it concise and integrated with the bigger picture
- Style
- The unique ways you present your ideas
They also suggest two types of originality:
- Big O Originality, for new inventions
- Small o originality, for smaller ideas
Another simple way is just to critique the idea by offering other perspectives or adding onto it.
In the comments Cristopher pointed out an important part from [[Steal like an artist]]:
> "Your goal isn't to copy what they made, but their way of thinking or seeing."
If you compound this type of theft, you will inevitably create your own unique creations.
