## Why centering is important
head down causes shallow breaths, anxiety

Three forms of centering:
- Physical
- Attention
- Attitude
### Physical

Find center of body, head, put hands in a way where chest open, shoulders down
- Proper head orientation
- head down causes shallow breaths, anxiety
- looking down indicates sleep
- Find a state in between daydreaming and sleeping
- Once you find a place that works, ask yourself how it feels like, have a memory so you can find a way to get back to it
### Attention
- Focus on your breathing
- expand abdomen while breathing, gets oxygen in blood
- When finding yourself distracted
- acknowledge and label it with an ing word
- ex) reflecting, remembering

### Attitude
Find a balance between fighting and feeding your "inner puppy" when you find yourself wandering away. A balanced approach to guidance and discipline is essential to stay in a tranquil state. The goal is to **befriend** yourself.
Understand what it feels like to bring yourself back into the world. Slowly merge the two states together to integrate what you cultivated in your practice to the everyday world.
