Work cycles are to revert back from the urge or overwhelm to always be productive by having set boundaries and balance. This requires us to have an understanding on the [[Difference between work and leisure]] Contrary to the belief where taking a break is wasting potential: the truth is, people will focus on your peaks more than when you slack. Intense work followed by times of rest is most sustainable and compatible with our biological history. ![[My Inputs/My Books/Rest#^hl45ic]] ## Natural ![[My Inputs/My Books/Slow Productivity#^w1rmm2]] ![[My Inputs/My Books/Slow Productivity#^x3hrgu]] We were not meant to be constantly on, but this is what is expected for most 9-5 jobs. ## Levels ### Work session cycles - To prevent diminishing returns for enhanced cognitive performance, especially for tasks that involve neuroplasticity, have max 90 minute sesion durations - [[Ultradian Rhythm]] - Listen to your body and energy levels to map out your ultradian cycles - What times of day are you able to focus for the longest? - How long can you work for before feeling distracted and tired? - I prefer pomodoro since a complete session (4 work 1 short break) is exactly 2:15 hours - According to [[Rian Dioris]], 90 minutes to 3 hours of flow, have flow recovery block - ![[My Inputs/My Books/Rest#^f6nvp4]] - In [[Rest]] there was a constant connection of this 4-ish hour time to do deep creative or deliberate practice work across historical notable figures. but then my question is could you do 4 hours of creative work and then 4 hours of deliberate practice? ### Day cycles - Know when your cut-off is - ex) 9-5, rest can be vague leisure time or non-demanding work ### Periodic cycles - That's what the weekends are for ;) - At least take sunday off - In 12 week year, they advocate for week 13 to be rest week and reflection - challenge load, hysterical growth, caused by tapping into hidden reserves (1-3 months). commit to output first. ## Benefits [[Mental focus attracts resources]]
